Violence Erupts: NIA Personnel Attacked in Bengal Incident
NIA team attacked in Bengal West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee and the Opposition BJP were locked in a new blame game Saturday after a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team was attacked by a crowd while arresting two men it said were “key conspirators” in the Bhupatinagar blast case, which killed three people in December 2022.
NIA team attacked in Bengal
The NIA team and its security detail attempted to be stopped by the belligerent mob from proceeding to the Bhupatinagar police station in order to finalise the arrest procedures. In this context, NIA has filed a complaint at the local police station. Manorama Jana and the second apprehended accused, known as Balai Charan Maity, were discovered to have planned to create and explode crude bombs to spread terror, according to the NIA. The accused would be brought before the Special NIA Court in Kolkata.
Mamata Banerjee criticised the BJP during an election rally
The Purba Medinipur event also triggered a war between the BJP and TMC, similar to what happened with Sandeshkhali. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the BJP during an election rally in Balurghat by saying. NIA team attacked in Bengal “The NIA, not the women, launched the attack. NIA agents are breaking into people’s homes at midnight. What are your expectations? Women, won’t they fight for their rights? Following the 2022 detonation of a chocolate bomb at Bhupatinagar, the NIA has now been called in. to induce fear. Our booth presidents are all targeted for arrest by the BJP. In an attempt to win the election, they have detained Adivasi leader Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal. They have the Income Tax and ED to extort, and they have the CBI and NIA to incite terror.
“The elections should take place on an even playing field. You should be aware that India is the largest democracy and that you will not succeed if you believe that you can win the elections by force, the speaker stated.
Afterwards, Banerjee asked reporters, “Why did they (NIA) raid at midnight? Did the police give them permission? The locals responded as they would have if a stranger had shown up at midnight. We demand that the entire world oppose the BJP’s crooked politics.
Opposing the Chief Minister, the BJP retaliated. Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed in a post on X that the reason the TMC leaders “could still dare to attack” NIA officers was “because of Mamata Banerjee’s repeated instigation” following the attack on ED officers in Sandeshkhali. He said that in Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar, Banerjee “spoke ill about the NIA.”
As a “very serious” matter, Governor C V Ananda Bose described the attack on NIA officers.
