The operable stretch from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah is operational, while the portion between Esplanade and Sealdah is currently under development. In June or July, Kolkata Metro intends to launch the entire East-West route between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan.

The Kolkata Metro created history in April 2023 when a train was successfully navigated under the tunnel under the Hooghly River.
